I am the 99%

I am the 99%

Posted on October 14, 2011 by Tracy Seekins

Ok folks here is one of my passionate pieces of information

I am the 99%, and guess what there is not ONE person on my friends list on Facebook who is not part of the 99%, because if there were they would want to help me not struggle just to eat every month.

If you think you aren’t or you think this doesn’t affect you or those around you then you need to open your minds and your eyes.

STOP listening to the main stream media, THEY LIE constantly and consistently about just about everything. Do some real research.

This country is in real trouble and has been for some time now and it affects YOU or it affects someone you know (maybe they just haven’t shared it with you).If you don’t understand what’s happening in this country then do some looking. Read some of the many posts out there that explain it, watch some videos, do your own searches.

I’m so happy for you if thus far this has not affected your life in some way, if you are living financially secure and eating every day. But don’t fool yourself into believing it will never affect you. It may take time but eventually it is going to affect every single person I know and every single one they know. Let’s not let it get that far! We CAN create change.

And furthermore, if you do not have a mansion, butlers, private schools, limos, and every luxury that most of the inanely rich have, then you are a part of the 99%. Now whether you support the movement is of course your choice but you are NOT within the 1%whether you like that or not.

The 1% have so much money and so many tax loopholes that they will never be in danger or worry about anything. They are able to finance 100% any candidates run for office that they wish and generally with that kind of money and pull are able to get them in there with little effort. Can you do that? If you can’t then guess what, you are part of the 99%.

I am proud to say that some of the 1 percenters are in fact supporting this movement and have actually joined the protesters because even they see the inequality and injustice that is being perpetrated in this country today. I am sad to say that there are many who are within the 99% who have closed their minds or want to believe something incorrect so badly that they are not even as supportive as many of these 1%ers.

If you are unsure about what the goals are of this movement, again do some research. They DO have goals. There IS a plan. And they are not alone. There are TWO movements going on simultaneously but with similar goals and working together.

If you want to keep pretending that this isn’t happening or isn’t real, well that is your choice but when the shift finally hits the fan and life crashes on you or someone you love, remember you could have supported the effort to create a change.

Who are the 99%

Who are the 99%?

I am the 99%. My husband and I worked our butts off over the years. I worked for a big company, making in the neighborhood of 25k a year. He worked as a truck driver making around the same.

We have ridden the roller coaster of life.  Since that time much has changed. We proudly built a home and paid off all our student loans and other debts. We were living a typical middle class life, until the bottom fell out.

Now we are both older and both disabled. Life has changed for us in ways I cannot even begin to describe.

Now, we struggle each month to survive. Some months we have very little food and often there are days that we do not eat. We have had to choose which of us goes to a doctor due to the inability to pay co-payments for both of us in any given month.

It has been a difficult road but we walk it. We blame nobody but our own poor decisions that were based on trusting a system that was falling apart. It took me a long time to realize that we were not the only ones going through this. There are many who face the same or similar situations.

I have watched many lose their jobs, homes, security, and more due to the declining economy and the corrupt banking systems.

But I am not the face of the 99%. I am but one story in a multitude of faces and names. The 99% is YOU!

Chances are the 1% won’t even see this post so I can safely say that there is a 99% chance that YOU are also within the 99% of the population that is not so wealthy that you will never be in danger.

Chances are that you are not so wealthy that you can line the pockets of politicians in order to get them to lean in the direction you want them to.

Chances are that you have worked your BUTT off to get where you are and you pray, as do I, that you never have to face the circumstances that my family has faced.

You and I are not so different.

The 99% live in apartments, houses, condos, cabins, mobile homes, Campers, tents, yurts, and even cars. The 99% work in fast food, customer service, management, call centers, education, civil service, and a plethora of other industries. The 99% are of all ages, sexes, orientations, and color.

Some have more than others and some have even less than most. Some are working 2 and 3 jobs just to try to make ends meet and others are working 1 job and doing just fine. But None of us are immune to the 1% and the hold they have on the banking system and the country.

Each one of us is but a breath away from losing everything. The ground might look safe to walk upon but the quicksand is well camouflaged.

Some of the 99% will never have to face what so many others are facing, some will undoubtedly make that faulty assumption that it could never be them and then find themselves sinking in the sand.

The point isn’t does this affect you NOW, the point is that it could. The point is that it affects your neighbors, friends, family, and your fellow man.

Today you have a choice. It is YOUR choice, as it always is. You can sit by and watch what is happening and pray that none of this ever affects you, your family, your friends; or you can get involved, do some research, learn, and take a stand.

You are the 99% and those who are occupying various places right now in solidarity with Occupy Wall Street are not just there speaking up and standing up for their rights, they are there standing up for YOUR rights as well.

You can see more of WHO the 99% are, the faces of the 99% HERE

It Could Be You!

It Could Be You
Do you think you are special?
Are you different than me?
In the land of the brave,
and the home of the free.

Whatever happened
To MY American Dream
Just because I am different
Just what does it all mean

Because I am older
Or because my body is ill
I don’t deserve good food?
Or my stomach to fill?

Second hand clothes
Becoming threadbare
I guess I am lucky
To breath the same air

I used to be worthy
Back when I could pay
All the taxes and systems
That I thought would help me someday

So if you are thinking
This won’t happen to you
You are fooling yourself
And it’s time for the truth

Anything can happen
To anyone, anytime
It takes just a moment
Life can turn on a dime!

Awaken!

History in the making
But you do not see
They censor the coverage
In the land of the “free”
Not the first, not the last
Together we stand
For freedom and choice
This is OUR land
So many forgotten
So many don’t care
So speak out, be heard
Be brave, if you dare
We are peaceful
But outspoken
They come at us
But we will not be broken
